ARI brings its fundamental research to life through programs specifically designed for children and adults. These include guided tours for school groups, an open house held in conjunction with the "International Noise Awareness Day,” participation in the "International Day of Mathematics", Austria’s “Long Night of Research,” and contributions to academy-wide initiatives such as “Akademie im Klassenzimmer” and “Children’s University.”

Whether deciphering animal sounds or testing your perception of sound, every year on the international Noise Awareness Day (Tag gegen Lärm), the Acoustics Research Institute of the OeAW opens its doors and invites visitors to experience the world of acoustics for themselves.
Highlights from Tag Gegen Lärm 2026
The international Noise Awareness Day was launched in 1996 by the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) in New York. ARI has been actively participating in this global day of action since 2015.

Since 2020, the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) has been celebrated worldwide to spark interest in mathematics among both students and the general public.
Who can take part?
The event is open to all age groups. Many of the stations, talks, and workshops are designed for individuals aged 12 and up, while others are suitable for children as young as 6.
Look forward to a diverse program featuring engaging talks, interactive stations, hands-on workshops, and an exhibition. Admission is free. Workshop registration is required and can be completed at the welcome desk on the day of the event.
