Biography
Barbara C Steininger studied law and Dutch in Vienna and Leiden. During her studies, she was employed as a student assistant at the Institute of Roman Law of the University of Vienna. She worked as a researcher at the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL), at the Institute for European Tort Law and at the University of Geneva. In 2013, Barbara Steininger became Assistant Professor at the University of Graz, where she completed her habilitation thesis in 2019, for which she was awarded three prizes, the Kardinal-Innitzer-Förderungspreis, the VKB-Wissenschaftspreis and the Dr. Alois Mock Wissenschaftspreis. Since April 2020, she has been Associate Professor (tenured) for Civil and Comparative Law at the University of Graz. In October 2020, she was appointed Vice-Director of ECTIL and in October 2023, she became Director of the Centre of European Private Law of the University of Graz and Vice-Director of the Institute of European Tort Law. While (comparative) tort law remains her favourite, the law of obligations, property law and family law are also among her areas of interest. Barbara Steininger is co-editor of the Graz Law Working Paper Series and a Fellow of the European Law Institute.
