The second project of the ‘World Tort Law Society’ (WTLS) focuses on ‘Liability for Road Traffic Accidents’ and is led by Ernst Karner (Vienna University and formerly ECTIL and ETL). The field of road traffic accidents provides an excellent example of the interplay of quite a number of different compensation mechanisms and thus presents a perfect opportunity to compare these mechanisms and their suitability for remedying damage sustained as well as for preventing further losses. Moreover, as this is one of the few areas in which reliable statistical data is available, the practical relevance of the problems under discussion can be substantiated with meaningful figures.

The study encompasses 17 jurisdictional reports (Australia, Austria, China, Denmark, England and Wales, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, the Netherlands, North America, Russia, South Africa and Taiwan) as well as a comparative report.
