On April 15, 2026, the TransHerit research project team hosted its first photovoice workshop at Józsefvárosi Múzeum, the museum of the 8th district in Budapest. Inhabitants and regular visitors of the area have shared their impressions and memories of their neighbourhoods in Józsefváros an their historic residential building by telling the stories behind the old or newer photos. The group included young and elderly inhabitants from different professional backgrounds, such as art curators, architects, students etc. The group reflected on the transformation of historic neighbourhoods with nostalgia, remembering some of the old events, places and buildings that existed in the 1990s but not anymore. They shared opinions on new developments in the district, the growing touristification and pedestrianisation, highlighting the positive and negative effects. Some of the participants are actively part of shaping the district's and their residential building's social life, contributing to the vibrant life in the area. The group concluded on a positive note "It was good then, and it’s good now".
Participants:
Dr. Sandra Guinand, Viktória Éva Lélek (ÖAW/ISR), Hanna Szemzö (MRI), Tímea Horváth (Józsefvárosi Múzeum), inhabitants and regular visitors of the 8th district.
