Our team has been organising the urban built heritage course together with the MATE University in Budapest and the course Supergrätzl 2.0 together with the Institute for Urbanism, Landscape Architecture and Design at TU Wien. The master students of the architectural faculty of Vienna went for a one-day visit to Budapest to learn more about the historic housing stock and its current developments in the 8th district. Dániel Rádai, the deputy major of the 8th district has shown us current projects on refurbishment and public space development. The ongoing projects in the 8th district work with traffic calming measures and creating green infrastructure to enhance the quality of the urban environment. The districts strategies work a lot with public participation, involving residents of the area in designing public spaces. Despite the complicated two-tier legislative system of the capital, the 8th district has developed some strategies that can inspire future concepts on city level. In the afternoon, the students presented their concepts for a new superblock (Supergrätzl) in Vienna.

Participants:
Dániel Rádai, Dr. Sandra Guinand, Viktória Éva Lélek (ÖAW/ISR), Petra Flóra Pásztói, Dr. Ildikó Réka Nagy (MATE), Angelika Psenner, Daniel Löschenbrand, Susanne Tobisch (TU Wien) and students of TU Wien.
