OpenStreetMap Expert Workshop in Urbanum Budapest

On December 6, 2024, the TransHerit research project hosted its first OpenStreetMap workshop at Forum Urbanum in Budapest. The event brought together participants interested in exploring urban heritage through the lens of participatory mapping. The workshop began with an introduction by representatives from the Kortárs Építészeti Központ (KÉK), setting the stage for insightful discussions. Sandra Guinand and Viktória Éva Lélek from the Austrian Academy of Sciences presented the objectives and goals of the TransHerit project, highlighting its focus on utilizing digital mapping as a tool for urban research and community engagement. Viktória led a detailed mapping presentation, showcasing how OpenStreetMap can be effectively used to capture and preserve local heritage. The session sparked an engaging discussion, with attendees sharing questions, suggestions, and perspectives on the role of mapping in understanding urban environments. The event concluded with an informal gathering over drinks and snacks, allowing participants to network and exchange ideas.
