Seminar: Climates and observations of Earth-like exoplanets

Dr. Evelyn MacDonald (Uni Vienna) will present her ongoing work on understanding habitability on rocky (exo-)planets.

Thursday 05.02.2026 02:02 pm

Although several Earth-sized exoplanets have been detected, very little is currently known about their climates because our ability to characterize their atmospheres is limited with current instruments. Furthermore, there is a broad range of possible climates for such exoplanets due to difficult-to-constrain parameters like atmosphere mass and composition, surface composition, and water abundance. In this presentation, I will use climate simulations and synthetic spectra to discuss key factors that contribute to a temperate rocky planet’s climate and their effects on observations with current and next-generation instruments.
