Measuring velocity and ablation at the tongue of Taschachferner

From 2009 onwards, mass balance on the ice surface, changes in ice thickness and the glacial flow have been determined annually at three points on the tongue of Taschachferner.

Several times a year the surface melt is read off ablation stakes and their position measured with a precision DGPS to calculate ice flow
