The journal eco.mont – Journal on Protected Mountain Areas Research and Management first came out in June 2009. It was founded on the initiative of the Network of Alpine Protected Areas (ALPARC), the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences (ISCAR), the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and the University of Innsbruck. It aims to tackle themes that touch on both research and management issues in protected areas in the Alps, while not excluding other protected mountain areas in Europe or elsewhere.
The journal is targeted at scientists from a broad range of disciplines, at protected area management and an interested public including practitioners, visitors, teachers, etc.. The journal includes peer-reviewed articles in English on issues of research in and management of protected mountain areas. It is published twice a year, jointly by the Austrian Academy of Sciences Press, which is responsible for the digital version, and Innsbruck University Press, which is responsible for the print version.
