Measuring velocity and ablation at the tongue of Gepatschferner

From 2009 onwards, mass balance on the ice surface, changes in ice thickness and the glacial flow have been determined annually at several points on the tongue of Gepatschferner.

Several times a year the surface melt is read off ablation stakes and their position measured with a precision DGPS to calculate ice flow
