The Austrian Academy of Sciences awarded Dr. Claus Trost the Best Paper Award 2023.

The Best Paper Award (funded by the Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna for the ÖAW) is awarded to scientific staff members (up until 5 years after finishing their PhD)

at research institutions of the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class of the ÖAW for the best scientific paper - monograph or original article - published or accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed publishing house or journal.

Claus received the award for the invited paper “Bridging Fidelities to Predict Nanoindentation Tip Radii Using Interpretable Deep Learning Models” (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11837-022-05233-z ) published in JOM. He and his co-authors investigated the wear of nanoindentation tips using a combination of 2D and 3D Finite Element Simulations, experiments and explainable machine learning methods.
