MSE 2018 Darmstadt – Material Science and Engineering Congress

From September 26th -28th, 2018, the Material Science and Engineering Congress (MSE), which is one of the largest in the field of Materials Science in Europe, took place in Darmstadt, Germany. More than 1500 participants shared their work with the community in six topical areas and over 50 symposia.
One symposium, Mechanical Behavior of Advanced Structural Materials, was co-organized and partially chaired by Andrea Bachmaier from the Erich Schmid Institute and Daniel Kiener from the Department of Materials Physics. The symposium was held in honorary of Prof. Reinhard Pippan and was the symposium with the largest number of contributions at the MSE 2018.
Besides keynote and highlight talks of Daniel Kiener, Anton Hohenwarter and Marlene Kapp, more than 20 oral contributions as well as poster presentations were given by members of the institute in different symposia.
The intensive and interesting lectures and the following discussions during the conference gave a good opportunity to deepen the fundamental understanding of scientific problems in the field of materials science. The MSE party with live music was also beneficial to network with colleagues from other universities.
