The research of the branch office concentrates on the Egyptian culture area, currently focussing on two main topics:

  •     Investigation of the peripheral areas of Egypt, both in terms of time and geography
  •     Urbanistic research in Egypt

The current research sites are localised in the eastern Nile Delta (Tell el-Dab'a) and in southern Upper Egypt (Hisn el-Bab and Kom Ombo). The projects are dedicated to the settlement history and the embedding of the river landscape in these regions.

The branch office is an important point of contact and interface for all Austrian institutions wishing to conduct archaeological or general archaeological research in Egypt.
