The Handbook Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) provides information about SEA as an instrument, the state of the art of SEA in Austria, international approaches of SEA as well as legal aspects of SEA. The core part however is a descriptive list of Austrian SEA cases.

The 3rd edition of the Handbook SEA has been completely updated:
After a revised introductory overview chapter and the chapter Step by step through the SEA process, a new chapter titled SEA in Austria presents a documentation of about 600 Austrian SEA procedures, structured according to different planning sectors, as well as selected case studies. This chapter also summarizes the federal and regional (i.e. Länder) activities.

The revised chapter SEA international describes SEA developments on the international level and the next chapter presents the legal bases for SEA. There, the SEA Directive of the European Union, the SEA protocol of the UNECE and all SEA relevant Austrian statutes and regulations are documented. The last chapter contains SEA check lists, further literature, references, and links.
