Nur selten beziehen Analysen von Medieninhalten mehrere europäische Länder - und Sprachen! - mit ein, zumal sie mit besonderen Anforderungen in Methode und Darstellung konfrontiert sind. Mit der in diesem Heft veröffentlichten, von Prof. Michael Schmolke an der Universität Salzburg betreuten Untersuchung der Medienberichterstattung über Irland im 20. Jahrhundert will die RELATION auf die notwendige Forcierung solcher Studien - gerade im Prozeß der europäischen Einigung - aufmerksam machen. Um eine ausführliche Darstellung der Ergebnisse dieser quantitativ-qualitativen Analyse zu ermöglichen, entfallen in diesem Heft der RELATION ausnahmsweise die üblichen Rubriken.

Studies of media contents rarely include several countries - and languages! - since they would necessitate special methods and ways of presentation. By presenting a comprehensive analysis of the media coverage on Ireland in the 20th century (supervised by Michael Schmolke, University of Salzburg) RELATION wants to stress the necessity of such studies - especially in the view of the growing European unity. To allow more space for the results of the extensive quantitative-qualitative analysis in this volume the usual columns are for once omitted.
