This year’s summer issue presents articles investigating monastic institutions and their interactions with their environment, complemented by a reflection on the uses and meanings of the term asceticism, as well as articles focusing on cultural, commercial and diplomatic exchanges of Byzantium with its eastern and western neighbours.
