Biographie
Shamil Shikhaliev arbeitet derzeit als Post-Doc am Institut für Iranistik am Forschungsprojekt „Probing the Horizons of a Daghestani Polymath: 'Alī al-Ghumūqī and His Library (1878-1943)“, das vom Österreichischen Wissenschaftsfonds (FWF) finanziert wird. Davor, von 2020 bis 2023 war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des an der Universität Amsterdam angesiedelten ERC Starting Projekts „The Muslim Individual in Imperial and Soviet Russia“ (https://mind-archives.com/). Zwischen 2000 und 2020 war Shikhaliev am Institut für Geschichte, Archäologie und Ethnographie in Daghestan, Russland, angestellt, zuletzt als Senior Researcher und von 2008 bis 2018 als Leiter der Abteilung für islamische Handschriften am selben Institut. Von 1998 bis 2023 nahm Shamil Shikhaliev an jährlichen archäografischen Expeditionen in den Ostkaukasus und in die Wolga-Ural-Region teil mit dem Ziel der Auffindung, Dokumentation und Katalogisierung von islamischen Manuskripten.
