Biography

James Baillie is a pre-doctoral project member at the Institute of Iranian Studies, and is working on the Caucasus Digital Repository project which aims at improved digital preservation and accessibility of historical materials and studies in the Caucasus region. His core research interests and publications cover the medieval Caucasus and digital humanities methods, and his doctoral research is a socio-political study of the Caucasus in the 12^th century, focused particularly on constructing a prosopography database for the region in that period. He was employed at the University of Vienna from 2017 to 2022, working largely on producing best-practice guidance and teaching materials for digital humanities methodologies in Austrian and EU projects. His other research interests include the modern reception of medieval history, especially through games.
