Guest lecture: Mixe in Mexico (Dr. Kondic)
Guest lecture by Dr. Ana Kondic, Max-Planck-Institut für Menschheitsgeschichte (Jena):
Northwestern Mixe in Mexico: Experiences and results from a field research project
Dr. Kondic carried out a VLACH financed project on 'Documentation of Mixe language and Culture' in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, from May 1 till August 31, 2018. She will give an insight into the collected materials of Mixe narratives collected from several native speakers of three different Mixe varieties: Mixe of Tlahuitoltepec, Mixe of Ocotepec (Municipality of Totontepec), and Mixe of Cotzocon. The first two varieties are under-described, with just a few articles written on them. The Cotzocon variety was totally undescribed - no linguist has ever worked with them. The result is a collection of narratives contains texts in three varieties of Mixe, their translation in Spanish and a translation in English; three thematic dictionaries (Spanish word lists translated into each variety that I worked with). The presentation will be illustrated by photos of the authors of narratives.
