Medieval Worlds 17: Knowledge Collaboration among Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Muslims in the Abbasid Near East

Volume 17 of our open access e-journal Medieval Worlds is online, presenting a thematic section on

• Knowledge Collaboration among Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Muslims in the Abbasid Near East

and an individual article on

• An Interdisciplinary Exploration of Celestial Phenomena between Byzantium, Charlemagne, and a Volcanic Eruption.

In this winter volume we are happy to present a stand-alone article from the vibrant field of Medieval Studies in which the humanities and natural sciences interact. Events from Byzantine and Carolingian history are combined with vulcanological and meteorological findings from the period, providing not only a well-founded integration of climatic phenomena in the interpretation of historical events of the 8th and 9th centuries but also insights into their appropriation in contemporary narratives.

Our thematic section Knowledge Collaboration among Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Muslims in the Abbasid Near East traces evidence of knowledge transfer between figures who belong to different religious traditions in the Near East/Middle East from the 7th to the 13th century CE.
