Juristenrunde with Anatoliy Kostruba

Dr. Anatoliy Kostruba, Professor of Civil Law of the Ukraine and Contract Researcher at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, holds a Juristenrunde lecture on Ukrainian Tort Law and 'War torts' on Monday, 6 November 2023 at 11:00.

War Torts: Ukraine's Broken Heart Contribution to the Development of EC Tort Doctrine

On 24 February 2022, the Russian Federation launched an open military aggression against Ukraine. The most affected regions were Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv, Sumy, Luhansk and Donetsk. Active shelling of cities led to the destruction of the residential sector. The amount of indirect damage caused to individuals by the end of September 2023 is estimated at $65 billion. This raises the issue of compensation for the damage caused, which requires the development of legal instruments and the introduction of effective mechanisms for their implementation. One of these is the development of war tort law.

The lecture takes place in the institute's premises. Participation is free of charge. If you are interested to join, please register with etl(at)oeaw.ac.at.
