»Wohin mit den ganzen Knochen? – Erfahrungen und Herausforderungen der freiberuflichen Bioarchäologie. Ein Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen Bioarchäologischer Gesellschaft und Archäozoologenverband e.V.«

Françoise Chaput – Kerstin Pasda – Ptolemaios Paxinos – Simon Trixl | Archäozoologenverband e.V.

Bioarchaeology, which encompasses physical anthropology, archaeobotany and archaeozoology, is able to substantially extend the information gained from archaeological research. It not only provides a deeper insight into the everyday history of past cultures, but also provides information about their influence on changes in nature changes in nature, ecology and climate in space and time.

Bioarchaeological associations can help to communicate the potential of bioarchaeological research not only to those commissioning archaeological work, but also to the general public by definition common objectives and strategies. They might also foster implementing quality standards, and promote networking, especially among freelance bioarchaeologists.

During the lecture and the following discussion, a first balance of the work of the two bioarchaeological associations – the BAG in Austria and the AZV in Germany – will be drawn. The focus will be on the exchange of experiences as a basis for taking stock of the goals implemented to date and the planning of future work.
