»Augenöffner und Hingucker – Alte und neue Quellen zur Augenmedizin und -kosmetik im pharaonischen Ägypten«
Hans-Werner Fischer-Elfert | Leipzig University
In Pharaonic Egypt, the visus ranked first in the hierarchy of the senses. It is therefore not surprising that the eyes and their protection against diseases and injuries were given the highest medical priority. The Leipzig Papyrus Ebers alone contains 96 recipes for this purpose. But the aesthetic or cosmetic side was not neglected either. In this lecture, unpublished sources on this range of topics will be presented both in words and pictures.
