The third European Technology Assessment Conference took place this year in the south of Ireland at the University College Cork (UCC). Numerous experts, including researchers, scientists, communication officers and politicians, took the opportunity to discuss their results and outcomes in sessions and networking events.
Wide range of subjects
Throughout 24 sessions and during the span of three days, projects such as CIMULACT and CASI were presented and methods were discussed, including public participation projects where civilians as well as stakeholders and experts were invited to take an active part.
Another focus was placed on the subject of politics and TA, pointing out the importance and relation of these two areas and examining the differences of participating institutions and countries. ITA experts chaired sessions on further topics including healthcare as well as data protection impact assessment. Twelve experts represented the ITA Vienna in Cork.
TA & public relation
For the first time the press officers of Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany and Austria representing the European TA Communicators (ETAC) held their own session in Cork. An overview of the challenges in science & research communication,as well as the changing process of the media landscape itself, was given in four short presentations. The session peaked in a dialogue about building bridges between researchers and communicators for a better understanding.
