Virtual Acoustic Spaces: Research Collaboration with LEWITT

ARI is working with LEWITT and the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz to develop methods for precisely capturing real acoustic environments, including their playback systems, and modelling them as “Virtual Acoustic Spaces.” The aim is to reproduce spatial listening conditions as realistically as possible over headphones.

The measurements produced in this collaboration are integrated into LEWITT’s new Space Replicator plugin. This enables the representation of a wide range of acoustic environments—from studio spaces to complex sound reinforcement systems—in a consistent and reproducible manner, without requiring physical access to the actual locations.

The plugin deliberately avoids the use of generative AI. Instead, it relies entirely on measurement-based methods to ensure a reliable and transparent representation of real acoustic conditions.
