R-ATICS9 – International Phonetics Workshop 2027

From June 2 to 4, 2027, ARI will host the ninth edition of R-ATICS, an international workshop dedicated to the variation of rhotic sounds across and within the world’s languages.

Organized by the Acoustics Research Institute of the OeAW, the workshop brings together researchers working on phonetic, phonological, sociolinguistic, and diachronic aspects of /r/ sounds, fostering exchange within an international research network. Topics include the diversity, production, perception, acquisition, and phonological status of rhotics, as well as /r/ sandhi and language change. R-ATICS9 will take place at the Main Building of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna’s historic city center.
