We are happy to welcome Bisakha Goswami, assistant professor of musicology at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, as guest researcher to the Phonogrammarchiv. Bisakha Goswami will spend six months with us as a fellow of the Academy's JESH programme. During this time, she will work on her project, titled "Facilitating Reconnection: Toward A Source-critical Expert Assessment of the Bengali and Indian Migrant Community Recordings of the Phonogrammarchiv/OeAW in Vienna". The collections that Bisakha Goswami will focus on were all recorded in Austria - in Vienna and Gaaden - between the 1950s and the 1990s with members of the Bengali and Indian migrant communities. The aim of her project is to study culture change in migration by engaging with the recordings themselves and with the people who were recorded and/or their descendants and to re-circulate the collections among the respective communities or individuals. For the Phonogrammarchiv, Bisakha Goswami's stay is a great opportunity to make its collections more widely known, to learn more about the original contexts of the recordings, to gain more detailed insights into their contents and to forge links with current members of the respective communities.
