Zentral-Café zu Hegels Theorie der technischen Handlung

The second seminar on Hegel organized by the Zentral-Café takes place on June 5th and 6th, 2023 (on both days at 4 pm). Hegel’s views on teleological and technical action and especially the central role of the tool will be our subjects. We will deal with the pertinence of Hegel’s theory of action for problems of ontology and epistemology as well as its significance for the contemporary anthropology of technology.

Just as in 2022, the Hegel specialist Dr. Jánnis Kozátsas will be our speaker. The basis for our discussion will be parts of his book The dialectic of practice and the logical structure of the tool. Philosophy, archaeology and the anthropology of technology (Oxford 2020). In addition we will refer to selected sections from Hegel’s works (System der Sittlichkeit, Jenaer Systementwürfe, Phänomenologie des Geistes, Wissenschaft der Logik, Enzyklopädie der philosophischen Wissenschaften).

We will send out pdfs of the texts in advance. For more information please contact Reinhard.Jung(at)oeaw.ac.at.
