The origins of alpine pastoralism — Bioarchaeological research at Neolithic pastoral sites

Hybrid-Lecture by Lucie Martin | Université de Genève

The presentation provides an overview of current knowledge on Neolithic pastoral sites in the Alps, extending more broadly from the Swiss Plateau to the Mediterranean. Particular attention is given to plant use and to the insights that bioarchaeological analysis offers for understanding the early agropastoral systems of the region. Several case studies will be discussed, focusing on multi-parameter research and shedding light on flock management, feeding practices, and the role of pastoralism in the daily lives of Alpine pioneer farmers.
