»Recent Bronze Age Settlement Research in New Lights – Százhalombatta-Földvár, Hungary SAX Project«

Százhalombatta-Földvár is a Bronze Age (2200-1450 BC) tell-settlement seated directly on the bank of the Danube some 30kms south of Budapest. The site has been excavated for the past 25 years with a very thorough and meticulous system. This endeavour, called the SAX (Százhalombatta Archaeological eXpedition) Project, is the research excavation of the Hungarian National Museum in cooperation with the Vienna, Southampton, Cambridge and Hungarian Universities.

The presentation will paint a bigger picture with an eye on small details via microscopy. So, in the first half of the talk, there will be a short introduction on the main research questions and the methodology chosen in accordance with these questions. And in the second part, some of the results of the archaeological soil-micromorphological investigations will be discussed to demonstrate the importance and revealing usefulness of the newly and systematically applied method.
