New Historical Data concerning the Third Intermediate Period in Egypt

Frédéric Payraudeau (Université la Sorbonne, Paris)

This lecture will present some of the recent discoveries about the history and chronology of the Third Intermediate Period, based on new material or studies in both Karnak and Tanis, important cities of this epoch. In Karnak, a special attention will be given to the study of a stela of the Libyan-Chief Nimlot, father of Shoshenq I. The presentation of recent work on private and royal documents from Tanis, chief-city during the 21st, 22nd and 23rd dynasties, will provide new information on the history, administration and funeral decorum in the North of Egypt during these periods.
