During the 25^th Dynasty (8^th century –663/656 BC), the foreign Pharaohs from Kush – modern-day Sudan – led Late Period Thebes to one of its last golden ages. A key element of their extensive building activity was the implementation of two innovative architectural types: the so-called kiosk and the entrance colonnade. Located directly in front of temple entrances, these structures significantly altered not only the Theban sacred landscape, but mirrored a massive, renewed emphasis on the Theban festival cult. Ultimately, combining the function of these structures with contemporary Theban festivals – particularly the Decade Festival – reveals a fascinating political agenda: through innovative architecture, the Kushite rulers successfully communicated a powerful divine argument for their own legitimacy.
