Iron Age Mediterranean Chronology

Symposium

Thursday 30.10.2025 , duration: 2 days

Growing discrepancies in the correlation of relative chronological sequences and inconsistencies in the approach to absolute dating have made Iron Age chronology one of the most debated topics in Mediterranean archaeology over the past two decades. These challenges call for a systematic, multidisciplinary approach. Our meeting in Vienna aims to bring together specialists in Iron Age archaeology from across the Mediterranean to address these issues from a range of scholarly, methodological, and theoretical perspectives. Rather than seeking immediate consensus on individual chronological disputes, the goal is to agree on common principles and approaches to chronology building and to lay the groundwork for a more consistent and systematically constructed framework for Iron Age Mediterranean chronology.
