This lecture will examine the ritual roles and female priesthoods entrusted to girls in the Greek world from the Classical period to the first century CE, with a particular focus on the Ephesian epigraphical datas. Drawing on epigraphic, literary, and archaeological evidence, it will explore the conditions under which girls held cultic offices — such as priestesses, kanephoroi, arrhephoroi, and loutrophoroi, and so on — and analyses the social and civic significance of these roles.
