


Workshop by Roman Gundacker
This workshop is dedicated to the phenomenon of complex word formations (compounds, juxtaposita, incorporation) as found in the most important languages of the ancient eastern Mediterranean and the ancient Near East. Experts in Sumerian, Akkadian, Hebrew and Arabic, Egyptian, the Anatolian languages, Mitanni-Aryan and Iranian, Greek and the Berber dialects will present, evaluate and discuss the basics of complex word formations of the respective languages. Besides aspects of morphology and syntax, semantic and lexical properties and the impact on the respective writing systems will be considered. All this will foster the interdisciplinary discourse, will further develop methodologies and will contribute to the linguistic evaluation of past languages.
