Excavations in Area S9/N of the Old Kingdom settlement at Kom Ombo – conducted by the OeAI Cairo Branch since 2017 – have yielded four fragmentary clay boat miniatures. With the sole exception of recent finds from the early dynastic domestic context at Elkab, comparable objects overwhelmingly derive from funerary or cultic settings from Predynastic sites. The Kom Ombo assemblage therefore offers a rare glimpse into the use and meaning of such artefacts within an urban environment. Beyond enriching our understanding of the material culture of everyday life in a provincial town between the mid-Second and late Fourth Dynasty, these miniatures also underscore a broader cultural continuity with Predynastic traditions.
