Over two evenings, scholars from across the globe who engage with the challenging topic of identity in forward-thinking ways will gather around a virtual roundtable to discuss the current challenges and future possibilities of identity studies. The discussion will focus heavily on ancient Egypt and Nubia; however, the time span and geographic range will not be limited to this region or even to the ancient past. The invited discussion leaders will share their current approaches, successes, and setbacks, as well as propose new possibilities. The goal is not to leave the roundtable with a group consensus on how we should approach the topic of identity in archaeology, but rather to highlight various approaches and leave feeling inspired by different perspectives and motivated to continue this necessary research with new ideas.
