Research Diary from Namibia: Insights into Fieldwork

Our colleagues Katharina and Fabio recently conducted fieldwork at the Ongava Game Reserve in Namibia. In a new video series, they provide insights into their research on site and into the practical realities of bioacoustic fieldwork.

As part of the project “The adaptive function of the cheetah contact chirp,” funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), Katharina Prager and Fabio Elleon are investigating cheetah vocalizations and their possible function in avoiding detection by other predators.

The first installment of the research diary accompanies them during their work in the Ongava Game Reserve and offers a closer look at the questions and challenges that emerge in the field, including the search for lions, which are an important part of the study context.
