Coordinating Artificial Intelligence at the Einstein Telescope

On 18/06/2026, the Einstein Telescope Collaboration Board, during the XVI ET Symposium in Aachen, elected Gianluca Inguglia, group leader in the graviational waves group at Marietta Blau Institute for Particle Physics (MBI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), as the coordinator of the Einstein Telescope Collaboration's artificial intelligence board.

The newly created board will operate transversely to all structures of the Einstein Telescope Collaboration to explore challenges and opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence that might benefit the Einstein Telescope, guarantee readiness for the use of advanced AI tools, train researchers, and allow a smooth transition to the time when AI tools become increasingly integrated in the workflow of all aspects of the collaboration.

Gianluca Inguglia is also a fellow of EuCAIF – European Coalition for AI in Fundamental Physics.

At the same meeting, Ulyana Dupletsa, a postdoc at MBI in the gravitational waves group, was appointed co-coordinator of the "Common Tools" division of the Observational Science Board of ET, in recognition of her contributions and expertise in determining the experiment's sensitivity.

This event signals a transition for MBI members from participating in the Einstein Telescope to shaping several aspects of its potential scientific outputs.
