ARI Info Talk: Using the Logic of the Scientific Method to Enhance Scientific Writing

Using the Logic of the Scientific Method to Enhance Scientific Writing

Abstract
In the spirit that an info talk is an opportunity to get input on a work-in-progress, I plan to present the outline of a paper-in-preparation that was inspired by my experiences teaching graduate-level courses on scientific writing and scientific thinking. The main theme is based on my observation that structural limitations in student papers can frequently be traced to what I attribute to be misconceptions about the steps of the scientific method. The purpose of the paper is to provide students with a primer on the scientific method along with suggestions on how to recognize and avoid various pitfalls that arise when one fails to deploy the logic of the scientific method to organize written documents.
