On 23 October 2025, »Die Presse« presented the Austria 25 award for the 22nd time, honouring Austrians of the year in six different categories. The award recognised individuals who have achieved outstanding things and renowned personalities from politics, business, the start-up scene, sport, art, culture and civil society.
Irene Forstner-Müller, a native of Upper Austria who has lived in Cairo since 2002 and has headed the Austrian Archaeological Institute's (OeAI) branch office there since 2009, won in the ‘International Success’ category. Her focus is on researching the lives of the ancient Egyptians. Together with her international team, she continues to make new discoveries, even though the OeAI has been conducting research in Egypt since 1966.
The prize money is provided by the partners of Austria 25. These include the Austrian Foreign Ministry, Austrian Research Promotion Agency, Austrian Lotteries, Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and Verbund.
