Chronometric investigation in the Eastern Mediterranean in antiquity

In the course of an initialising workshop in Vienna an international team shall be assembled that consists of specialists for historical chronologies, archaeological chronological data as well as radiocarbon (14C) dating. The aim is the compilation of the project CINEMA, which shall be established at the Institute for Oriental and European Archaeology (OREA) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences with strong cooperation with the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Chicago. This project intends to collect all kinds of chronological information (historical, archaeological, scientific), linking discrete data (historic events, material culture, scientific dates) in a single online accessible system that is not only able to generate absolute dates based on the information entered into the system but also allows to manipulate datasets in order to test their impact on the overall chronological scheme.
