In cooperation with the other EPTA members, the ITA is contributing to the EPTA Report 2026 and analysing the current state of affairs and prospects for sustainable urban mobility from an Austrian perspective.
From a sustainability perspective, mobility is also a key issue within city centres: A “smart city” is one characterised by short distances, where public transportation is prioritised over private vehicle use, as are cycling and walking. The allocation of traffic space – including for so-called “parked vehicles” – is under discussion, as is the energy supply for all vehicles.
Against this backdrop, the Greek EPTA Presidency is organising a comparative report for the EPTA Annual Conference in the fall of 2026, featuring contributions from EPTA member states. Questions will be posed to all countries regarding the following five topic areas:
The ITA is compiling responses for Austria as part of this project, which is not externally funded. Unlike the brief contribution to the joint EPTA report, the ITA report will be more comprehensive, include detailed references, and provide further analyses from the perspective of technology assessment. This project report places particular emphasis on the Austrian Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).
