The Reach and Limits of Silk Roads: Reinventing the Visual and Material Heritage of Eurasia

My case study is concerned with the trans-Eurasian trade network, called Silk Roads, from perspectives of revisionist history – what has been overlooked, reappraised yet remains largely misunderstood. Entitled ‘The Reach and Limits of Silk Roads: Reinventing the Visual and Material Heritage of Eurasia’, and within the scope of the Cluster’s Research Node 3. Identities and Religions, this study intends to reframe the concept of Silk Roads from the Pacific Ocean (including Japan) to the Black Sea, so as to propose an alternative narrative of Eurasia’s long-standing terminological cliché.
