Remembering along the Silk Roads: Psychology, History and Conservation in Dialogue

The Silk Roads serve as a "landscape of memory", where the preservation of the past is a continuous, contested, and collaborative process. This talk bridges the disciplinary divides between cognitive psychology, historiography, and material conservation to explore how historical memory is managed to serve national images, community identities, and individual experiences. The event gathers case studies from Japan, Mongolia, and Europe to investigate the multifaceted articulation of memory across Eurasia. The discussion focuses on how humans in contemporary society form tangible links with the past and integrate these historical narratives into their own personal and cultural biographies.
