Building a multilingual, comparable and interoperable collection of historical European newspaper corpora from the early 20th century

The thematic scope of the meeting will focus on key aspects of building a multilingual, comparable, and interoperable collection of historical European newspaper corpora from the early 20th century. Topics covered will include data preparation, data conversion, linguistic processing, validation, and representation of enriched information within the corpus. As part of the local organizer’s presentation, the work on the Austrian corpus will be presented.

The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and remote participation. The event will open with a two-hour open session in the form of a videoconference, broadcast live to a wide audience from the CLARIN community and other interested parties. After its conclusion, a closed, working session of the meeting will take place for the project consortium, with participation from both on-site and online attendees.

The expected result of the meeting is to develop a shared vision for further work, improve cooperation within the distributed infrastructure of ten national consortia, and accelerate the pace of work on making rich, open resources available to enable innovative, international, and transdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences.

The meeting aims to present the PressMint project – a flagship project of the CLARIN research infrastructure
