For the eleventh time, the report provides a unique assessment of Austria’s media ecosystem and journalism, taking a critical look at media law and practice across four key areas: fundamental protection of freedom of expression and media freedom, market plurality, political independence, and social inclusiveness.
The Austrian report was produced jointly by the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ CMC and Presseclub Concordia and authored by Josef Seethaler, Maren Beaufort, and Walter Strobl. It provides an important evidence base for the European Commission’s Rule of Law Report and contributes to the broader debate surrounding the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA).
CMC’s Maren Beaufort presented the Austrian findings at the MPM Annual Conference at the European University Institute in Florence, which brought together representatives from all 31 participating countries.
