As in previous years, the Media Pluralism Monitor 2024 (which covers the preceding year) found that most of the basics of the Austrian media system are in good condition. Nevertheless, there are a lot of deficits where urgent political action is needed. This applies to issues concerning political independence and social inclusiveness, but, particularly, the enduring risk to media market plurality posed by high concentration and declining market viability.

For the past 10 years, Josef Seethaler and Maren Beaufort have been responsible for the Austria report of the Media Pluralism Monitor commissioned by the European Commission.
