The Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences invites scholars to participate in the international conference “Comparison as Method and Heuristic in Communication Research.”
The conference provides a platform to examine the role of comparison in media and communication research – as a methodological approach, an analytical perspective, and a heuristic principle for understanding complex media dynamics.
The event will take place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna on 23–25 September 2026. Organised by the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC), it invites scholars to explore the role of comparison in media and communication research - especially in light of technological transformation, global shifts and methodological innovation.

Innovations in comparative communication research
Methodological reflection and critique
Making use of comparative results in academic and societal contexts
