The CMC contributed through a keynote by Andreas Scheu, representing our Science Communication and Science Journalism (SCSJ)working group. In his talk, “Unsicherheiten vermitteln, Vertrauen erhalten: Evidenzbasierte Empfehlungen”(“Communicating Uncertainties, Maintaining Trust: Evidence-based Recommendations”), he addressed a key challenge in science communication: how to convey scientific uncertainty – such as in EMF research – without undermining public trust.

Scheu outlined several evidence-based recommendations, which are central to the SCSJ’s work on responsible science communication:

• Communicate uncertainties actively, clearly and with visual support.
• Explain epistemic and methodological uncertainties.
• Contextualise consensus-related uncertainties, helping audiences understand why experts may disagree and how disciplinary viewpoints differ.
• Develop innovative formats for background information and reflect on audiences and target groups.
• Promote scientific and media literacy, enabling citizens to evaluate claims and evidence more independently.
• Enable sustained exchange and dialogue and provide space for questions and critical engagement.
• Actively counter misinterpretations and instrumentalisation, addressing false claims clearly and transparently to protect the integrity of scientific discourse.

Das CMC veröffentlicht ab jetzt einige Texte auch in leichter Sprache (Deutsch):

Am 27. November 2025 fand in Zürich der 40. Science Brunch der Schweizerischen Forschungsstiftung für Strom und Mobilkommunikation (FSM) statt. Auch das CMC war dabei: Andreas Scheu gab Einblicke in seine Forschung und erläuterte, wie mit Unsicherheiten in der Wissenschaft umgegangen werden sollte. Unsicherheiten sollten demnach aktiv, klar und mit Bildern kommuniziert werden. Zudem sollte erklärt werden, warum es unterschiedliche Forschungsergebnisse gibt und warum Experten und Expertinnen manchmal anderer Meinung sind. Darüber hinaus sollten verständliche, dialogorientierte Formate bereitgestellt werden, die der jeweiligen Zielgruppe gerecht werden. Das CMC möchte diese verständliche, offene und vertrauenswürdige Wissenschaftskommunikation fördern.
